Here's to trying new things.....
So Jason & I went to the Blue Nile Cafe in the City Market last night for our very first taste of Ethiopian food.
It was on the drive to the restaurant sitting next to a very thrilled man that I realized that Jason is enjoying this adoption experience for a whole other reason. He LOVES to try new things. Push the envelope. Go outside the box. The man will try anything and do almost anything once.
The problem? He married someone who utterly dislikes trying anything new or out of the ordinary.
Bless Jason's heart. He tries to get me to do new things. Try new foods. Experience adventure. Unfortunately, I am tenacious and fight him with everything I've got to stay with what I know and am comfortable with.
Jason will often point back to his track record of experiences that I wouldn't have had without him, such as Chinese food (which I did indeed like) as a reason why he can be trusted. Sometimes I fall for it, sometimes I don't.
Let me just say that Jason is a man gifted with perseverance and patience. He has yet to give up after being with me for 17 years despite the resistance he receives.
The fact that eating Ethiopian cuisine was my idea is what made it even more exciting of an evening for him. I didn't have to be talked into it. I didn't have to be dragged there. I went willingly. And we joyful tried something new together.
How was the food?
Wonderful!
We ordered the sampler platter. Ethiopian food is eaten with your hands using pieces of injera. Injera is a spongy pancake like bread that you use to scoop up the different dishes. The meat dishes were super spicy - which I LOVE.
Overall it was an amazing experience.
Four thumbs up! (Jason & my collective thumbs)
We will be definitely be frequenting the Blue Nile Cafe more often as our sweet girl grows up.
